Intelligent Transportation Systems Strategy for New York, New Jersey, and Connecticut -- For TRANSCOM, a consortium of transportation agencies in the metropolitan area. Using TransCAD, K&K developed a GIS database consisting of more than 70 geometric, traffic, and ITS attributes of 450 roadways (2,120 miles) in the 24-county tri-state region. The GIS database of transit corridors consists of NYC Transit, Long Island Railroad, Metro North Commuter Railroad, Port Authority Trans Hudson, and New Jersey Transit Rail lines. The transit network integrates rail lines in all three states, and contains passenger levels and other useful operating characteristics. Queries built into the GIS automate the identification of critical corridors for ITS implementation.

Redecking of Triborough Bridge, New York City -- For NYS Metropolitan Transportation Authority, Bridges & Tunnels Division, development of a TRANPLAN model of a six-mile radius around the bridge to evaluate and optimize maintenance and protection of traffic (M&PT) during bridge reconstruction. TransCAD-based GIS was used to generate trip productions and attractions from the 1990 Census tract level database on population characteristics. Results from the TRANPLAN model were transferred to a roadway network in GIS for a visual illustration of findings.

Kozciuszko Bridge Traffic Operations Study, Brooklyn & Queens, NY -- For NYS Department of Transportation, TRANPLAN modeling of six alternative M&PT designs, assessment of transit and other TSM options. MapInfo based GIS was used to manipulate the NYC Department of Finance tax block database to generate trip productions and attractions. A roadway network in GIS was used to illustrate the results of the analysis.

Route 1 Collaborative Study, Middlesex County, NJ -- For NJ Department of Transportation and USDOT, "cutting edge" modeling of transportation demand management, pedestrian, bicycle and land use strategies. K&K used GIS to facilitate understanding of a large-scale model and its relationship to a smaller sized study area. TransCAD-based GIS at Census tract level was used to illustrate how TRANPLAN traffic analysis zones (TAZs) were aggregated in the secondary study area. Roadway volumes and V/C ratios read from TRANPLAN screens were shown in the form of paper maps.

Queens Boulevard Bridge Reconstruction, Queens, NY -- For NYS Department of Transportation, development of optimum schedule for reconstruction; assessment of impacts on the surrounding roadway network using the TRANPLAN simulation model; assistance in developing the M&PT plan for bridge rehabilitation. TransCAD-based GIS was used to generate trip productions and attractions from the 1990 Census tract level database on population characteristics. Results from the TRANPLAN model were transferred to a roadway network in GIS for a visual illustration of findings.

Red Hook Trans Harbor Freight Service Assessment, Brooklyn, NY -- For Port Authority of NY & NJ, development of truck routes in the NY/NJ metropolitan area related to alternative freight facility scenarios; determination of operating characteristics of roadways, and calculation of emissions impacts of each. K&K used TransCAD-based GIS to geocode a truckers' survey with over 2,400 records at Zip Code level for the entire U.S. Geocoding the data and production of visual maps facilitated understanding of the pattern of origin-of-exports and destination-of-imports going through the Red Hook terminal in Brooklyn.

World Cities Study of Urban Transport Systems: Comparative Analysis of Institutional, Organizational, Financial and Environmental Measures in London, New York, Paris and Tokyo -- For the Institute for Public Administration, New York, NY. GIS was used to develop a comprehensive database of the 1990 U.S. Census attributes for the 31-county NY/NJ/CT metropolitan area. Using the county, tract, and block level GIS databases, an efficient manipulation of a huge database for a 4-zone structure was performed. Land use data are being integrated.

Internet TIP of Westchester County -- For FHWA Transportation Systems Research Center, development of a prototype on a web site of Westchester County, NY's five-year Transportation Improvement Program, using GIS to locate project-specific information and status. The TIP database was geocoded in point and line geographic layers in GIS. Using a wide variety of GIS databases, over 50 color maps were prepared to illustrate the individual projects and their settings.

ITS Deployment Plan, Meriden-New Haven, CT -- for Connecticut Department of Transportation, construction of a GIS database. GIS is being used to array a database consisting of more than 70 geometric, traffic, and ITS attributes for the roadways in the study area.

Outer Harbor CSO Study-Staten Island, NY -- for NYC Department of Environmental Protection, construction of a GIS database of flood complaints. Over 2,000 flood complaints are being geocoded at a street address level to identify concentrations of flood complaints. K&K will use an in-house enhanced streets network to improve the accuracy of the tiger file.
