Carolyn S. Konheim, president of Konheim & Ketcham, Inc., has over 25 years experience as an environmental regulator and manager of inter disciplinary studies concerned with transportation, development and solid waste projects in the New York / New Jersey metropolitan area. She is a certified expert on air quality issues and is knowledgeable on compliance with a broad spectrum of environmental regulations and permitting procedures. Ms. Konheim is widely regarded as an authority on effective involvement of the public in environmental and transportation planning. She helped to formulate much of the current body of environmental law in her former positions as Assistant Commissioner of the New York City Department of Air Resources and as Regional Director of the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation.

She has held leadership position in several professional and public interest environmental and transportation organizations and has presented numerous technical papers to professional groups, many dealing with constructive public involvement in planning and project review. Over the last 10 years, she has been primarily involved with comprehensive transportation planning studies, including developing traffic demand management strategies, intelligent transportation system measures, geographic information systems, traffic simulation modeling protocols, public opinion research and pedestrian and bicycle improvements. She is familiar with using GIS and transportation models for planning projects. She was appointed to the Council on Transportation and to the Pedestrian Committee of the Transportation Research Board; and elected to the board of the Intelligent Transportation Society of NY.
